KRYOLAN EYE PENCIL REVIEW

Hi all!!
Here I am with a kryolan review. An eye pencil this time! I had bought two eye pencils, one grey and another metallic bronze colored pencil! Read on to find out about how the bronze pencil fared.

What the website says about the product: Soft textured contour pencils in three ranges:
Classic, Iridescent and Fashion.17.5 cm Pencil length, made of cedar wood, with metal tip protector.

Packaging: It comes in a silver colored body with words engraved in silver. The cap is a small metal one.

My take on the product: I had wanted a golden or bronze colored eye pencil and I found just the right thing at Kryolan ( or that’s what I thought ) Since these eye pencils were cheap, and i wanted to experiment a little, I got this one. These were extremely creamy and one of the pencils broke twice while swatching! I was at first amazed at how smooth these were, but little did I realize the difficulty I was going to face! I was both happy that it was creamy and soft but worried about the tip getting crumbled often. So with mixed expectations, i went ahead and applied it on my eyes, and as i feared, the tip crumpled and became blunt.

I did not lose heart. I tried again and the tip broke this time too. I touched the tip and it crumpled :( . I was actually able to mould the tip with my fingers! I still went ahead and tried to draw a clumsy line. But I got a very thick one. I was very disappointed. I tried smudging it a little and it came out well. Only then did I realize that there is no way I can use this pencil as a liner, but I can very well use it as an eye shadow!

But that was not what I got it for! Anyhow I just wanted to make this pencil work on me some way. But I had a tough time in evenly spreading the product on my lids. But once I did that, it was awesome! And I had actually tried an EOTD. My first one! It is totally unsuitable for using on the waterline. It stayed on my lids for about 3 to 4 hours. Though I don’t know how long it will stay with a proper primer.

It is extremely creamy and pigmented. In the 3 to 4 hours, it creased very little! On the whole, it fails miserably as an eye pencil but works great as an eye shadow or as a base for eye shadow.

Price: Rs.175

The good:
1.       Creamy formula which gives a smooth application on my lids.
2.       Does not tug the lids.
3.       Very cheap for the quantity (the pencil is 17.5 cm in length, more than half feet) and it will last for a long time.
4.       It is sharpenable, so it is hygienic.
5.       Has color band at the end for easy identification.
6.       The staying power is really good! It did not smudge until I wiped it off.

The not so good:
1.       Fails miserably as an eye pencil L
2.       Even though it is creamy, it crumples like crazy and application becomes difficult.
3.       Cant be used on the water line as it has glitter particles in it.
4.       No names for the colors, they have some weird numbers.
My rating : 1.5/5  as an eye liner pencil! I would not recommend this one to anyone, if you want an eye liner pencil in this color. But if you like the color and can put up with the crumpling part, you can go ahead and get it. It will definitely make a good eye shadow and a base.

Here s how it looks on my eyes. Please excuse my oily lids with dark circles and unprepped eyes (there was a power cut and I was bored when I was trying this also I did not intend to do an EOTD at all.) :(

I   See the condition of the tip after using it on my lids :(

Hope you enjoyed this post :)

SOULFLOWER LAVENDER AROMA BATH SALT REVIEW

Hello all! Today I am going to review an aroma bath salt from Soulflower. Here is a small info about what bath salts are.
The term bath salt refers to a range of water-soluble, usually inorganic solid products designed to be added to a bath. They are said to improve cleaning, improve the experience of bathing, and serve as a vehicle for cosmetic agents. Bath salts have been developed which mimic the properties of natural mineral baths or hot springs.
Such salts include:
I got a bath salt with lavender aroma, since lavender is famous for relieving stress. Here goes the review.

Soulflower says:  The best way to refresh you after a long tiring day. Simply adding this bath salt to your bath water calms & relaxes one’s mind & promotes a restful, uninterrupted night's sleep. Release pain & inflammation in joints & muscles. If you have a headache, close your eyes put a washcloth soaked in the Lavender Aroma Bath Salt water over your eyes and relax.

Ingredients: Lavender essential oil, Thai herbs, Olive Oil, Vitamin E, Sodium Bicarbonate, Sodium Borate, Epsom Salts, Seasalts, Permitted Colourings.

Directions to use: Add just 2 capfuls of Lavender Aroma Bath Salt in your warm bath for a well balanced nutrition & moisture for the skin. Or dip a towel in a tub of bath salts & hot water & place over aching muscles.

My experience: This bath salt has a beautiful lavender color which is pleasing to the eyes. It comes in a transparent plastic bottle with a black screw cap. Also the aroma is of natural lavender and nothing synthetic. I was waiting for the right opportunity to try this, since it claims to calm down the mind and eases the body and joint pain. Two weeks back, I had to indulge in a lot of physical activity such as running up and down the construction site (no lift :( ) for an inspection and getting approvals (FYI I am a civil engineer) and ended up with back, thigh and joint pain.

I had a good night’s sleep, thinking that all that I need to make my pain vanish was sleep, but I was wrong! Next morning I had the same intensity of pain. So I took this bottle with me into the shower, added two caps full of salt into a bucket of hot water and stirred with my hands. The water turned into a beautiful shade of lavender and I as usual I had bath with that water.

The experience was really very relaxing. After shower nothing magical happened, but my body was good enough to get ready to office. I haven’t tried this for headache though. So can’t comment on that. But for a soothing, calming and relaxing bath experience, this is awesome!

Price : Rs.350 for 400 gms

The good:
1.       Looks pleasant.
2.       Smells of natural lavender.
3.       Gets quickly dissolved in water.
4.       Relaxes every muscle and joints while bathing.
5.       Also lessens internal body pain (nothing phenomenal, but eases the pain a bit)
6.       Can also be used as a foot soak for DIY pedicure.
7.       Huge bottle which lasts for 2 months if used once every week.
The not so good:
1.       Available only through online websites.
I could not find any other cons.
Final word: I rate this 4.8/5. It is a good way to combat stress!

DIY TEA TREE TONER FOR ACNE PRONE SKIN

Hi everyone!
Today i am going to share with you a do it yourself tea tree oil toner for acne prone skin. Summers make my skin sweat which leads to clogging of pores and eventually results in a bunch of acne. So i was on the look out for a home made and 100% natural toner for my face using tea tree essential oil. While searching the internet for this DIY i stumbled upon this procedure given here, which was pretty simple and i had all the ingredients mentioned with me at that moment. So i went ahead and tried it.

Here is my version of DIY tea tree toner:

INGREDIENTS:

1. An empty bottle - preferably a 50 ml one.
Since i did not have any small bottles, i used my cetaphil bottle 125 ml.

2. Glycerin - 2 ml
I used half a teaspoon glycerin ( 1 teaspoon = 5 ml, so 1/2 teaspoon = 2.5 ml )

Glycerin is hygroscopic, which means it absorbs water from the air. It fills in microscopic voids and cracks in the surface of dry skin. It makes your face appear smoother and healthier. It has healing properties and does not irritate the skin.

3. Water
I have used 50 ml of drinking water.

4. Tea tree essential oil - 7 drops.

Tea tree oil has anti fungal, anti bacterial  properties and hence destroys the bacteria causing acne on skin. So it is excellent for preventing acne and to treat existing breakouts without any side effects.

5. Lavender essential oil - 3 drops

Lavender oil is good for getting rid of acne, wrinkles, psoriasis, and other inflammations. It heals wounds, cuts, burns, and sunburns rapidly as it aids in the formation of scar tissues.

6. Vitamin-e capsule - 1

Vitamin-e oil is an excellent moisturizer and helps in reducing wrinkles, scars, brown spots and improves the skin complexion. It also helps to keep the toner fresh for longer period, something like a natural preservative.

PROCEDURE :

1. Pour the 50 ml water in the empty bottle.
2. Add glycerin, tea tree oil, lavender oil and vitamin-e oil into the bottle.
3. Now shake the bottle well till the oils get mixed (could you see the froth?).

And that is it! Your done! Simple na?
I have been using this toner along with tea tree oil spot treatment on my acne and its all gone in just 3 days! Am so happy and satisfied with this toner that am never gonna get a drugstore toner for a while and continue using this :)

VICHY ESSENTIELLES FACIAL EMULSION

Hello! It is peak of summer now and the weather is becoming hotter here in Chennai. Though I prefer summers over winters and rainy days, summers are such a pain as they make me sweat like hell and I hate that. Even my face sweats, and it makes things worse as I have combination oily skin. So it becomes a very difficult task to moisturize my face with a cream or lotion with the right consistency, which should be not very heavy and at the same time moisturize my skin. Well I did find such a cream or rather an emulsion! Yeah it is the famous Vichy emulsion for normal to combination skin. Read on to find out how it fared on my skin.

Vichy says: Hydrates, protects and reveals a healthy rosy glow.
Rose is known for its soothing properties. It contains Polyphenols that, in nature protect flowers against external aggressions. Additionally it also contains soothing Allantoin, nourishing Shea butter and hydrating Glycerin.
HYPOALLERGENIC - PARABEN FREE - TESTED ON SENSITIVE SKIN - WITH VICHY THERMAL SPA WATER.

Ingredients: Aqua, glycerin, alcohol denat, hydrogenated polyisobutene, undecane, ammonium polyacryldimethyltauramide, tridecane, myristyl myristate, stearic acid, potassium cetyl phosphate, allantoin, rosa gallica extract, glyceryl stearate se, sodium benzoate, aluminium starch octenylsuccinate, phenoxuethanol, tocopheryl acetate, copper pca, citric acid, xanthan gum, perfume.

My experience with it: I had been using lotus white glow microemulsion for a long time, and wanted a change. So did a bit of research on the internet and zeroed in on this one. Since I was comfortable with emulsion, I got this one without any second thought. It comes in a tube packaging with a flip open cap. It is extremely travel friendly

The emulsion is white in color and is very light. A pea size quantity is sufficient to cover my face. This 50 ml tube lasted for a little more than two months with regular usage twice daily. Only a slight massage with the emulsion on my skin is required and it gets absorbed within a jiffy. Very apt for summers.

It did not make my skin oily nor did it break me out. It moisturized and kept my face hydrated. And it does not contain parabens. Overall it is a good product to be used during summers.

Price: 50 ml for Rs.490/-

Now for the plus and minus.

The good:
1  .       Very light cream best suited for oily and combination oily skins.
2  .       Gets absorbed easily.
3  .       Moisturized my skin well.
4  .       No parabens.
5  .       Suitable for sensitive skin.
6  .       Does not break me out.
7  .       A little quantity is required to cover my face, so it will last for at least 2 months.

The not so good:
1  .       The price is on the higher side.

Final word:  I rate this one 5/5. Considering that it lasts for 2 months and it is harmless and makes the skin soft and supple, I feel that it is ok to spend on this one.

NYX LIP CREAM SAN PAULO REVIEW

NYX LIP CREAM SAN PAULO REVIEW
Hello everyone! My first product review on my blog! Let me confess that I am a lipstick addict! Yeah I love lipsticks, lipglosses and all lip products. Now coming to the review, I had hauled a few NYX products from cherry culture a while back. This lip cream was one of them. Since I got it long back, I forgot the price. But I will update the price for which it is available in India.

The packaging is really cute with a matte black screw type cap and the tube is in the color of the lip cream. Also it is very compact to carry in one's purse and travel friendly.

NYX SAYS: It is not lipstick nor is it gloss. Its like nothing you have experienced before. Its lipstick cream that goes on silky but looks soft matte.

My experience with it: This shade was a guess work. I searched on the net for swatches, but they were not clear. So I went ahead with this shade and am glad I got this! This is a blue based bright pink, which instantly brightens my face. As claimed, it goes smooth on my lips. The wand is a doe foot one which makes application easy, especially in the corner of my lips.

This cream is extremely pigmented and covers the pigmentations in lips in one swipe! My upper lips are a little darker than the lower lips, and this cream covers this unevenness in an amazing manner

On applying this cream, my lips feel moisturized for about an hour, but later it dries my lips. Though it goes on creamy on lips, it gives a wonderful matte finish after a few minutes.

Am posting my lip swatch for the first time (sorry about the yellow light). Please tell me your suggestions on this one!
Price: Rs.750 is the MRP, but Rs.563 @ stylecraze and Rs.600 @ urbantouch.
Also if the lips are not exfoliated, this cream accentuates the dryness. So it is mandatory for the lips to be soft and supple before applying this cream. And to avoid the dryness, a lip balm might fix it!
Now a quick look on the plus and minus of this lip cream.

The good:
1.       Great pigmentation.
2.       Covers the lip pigmentation in one swipe.
3.       Hides the unevenness of lips.
4.       Creamy and glides on lips.
5.       Sets into a matte finish in a few minutes.
6.       Stays on for 5 to 6 hours.

The not so good:
1.       Lips need to be exfoliated before using this lip cream. If not, it accentuates the dryness and lines.
2.       It dries out the lips after a few minutes of application.
3.       Expensive if bought in India, but cheaper if bought from international websites.

Final word: I will give this 3.8 on 5 for the dryness it causes. Otherwise it is great lip cream!

Hope you enjoyed the post. Please drop your queries and feed back in the comments section.
I would love to hear from you!
